Travel Awardees Sharing
Tavish Traut: “This year, I was able to attend the 2025 meeting of the Society for Social Neuroscience in Lisbon due to the generous support of the Larry J. Young Memorial Travel Fellowship. During the conference, I presented my recently completed neuroimaging study and engaged in invaluable academic discussions with other students, as well as post-doctoral researchers, professors, and senior scientists. As a final year PhD student, the opportunity to meet and share ideas with other researchers presents a critical step in building my scientific career; the helpful feedback I received has already proven useful as I prepare upcoming publications for submission and plan further experiments. Additionally, direct access to cutting edge research, via the many lectures and poster sessions, provided an excellent chance to observe the forefront of social neuroscience and an exciting preview of where the field may be headed over the next half decade. I’m very grateful for the meaningful relationships I’ve formed with fellow attendees and the opportunity to be a contributing member of this scientific community. I’d like to again extend my gratitude to the organising committee for their generous support through fellowship and look forward to the 2026 S4SN meeting in Montreal! Thank you again for facilitating my attendance of S4SN 2025!”
Ron Gerbi: “Attending the 2025 S4SN meeting in Lisbon was an inspiring and formative experience. As a PhD student studying how social interactions shape taste learning and decision-making in rats, this was my first opportunity to engage directly with a community of researchers who share a deep interest in the neural basis of social behavior, especially beyond the specific scope of taste learning. The meeting provided a unique platform to share my work and receive thoughtful, constructive feedback from leading scientists in the field. I was especially grateful for the discussions that followed my poster session presentation, they sparked new ideas and helped me better situate my findings within the broader context of social neuroscience. Beyond the academic exchange, it was incredibly motivating to meet other early-career researchers and hear about their projects, challenges, and aspirations. The collaborative and supportive atmosphere of the conference reminded me how vital it is to stay connected across disciplines and borders, especially during turbulent times. I am sincerely thankful for the support of the Larry J. Young Memorial Travel Fellowship, which made this experience possible. It reinforced my commitment to this field and helped me envision the next steps in my scientific journey.”
